What is Surrogacy?
Surrogacy is a process where a woman, known as a surrogate mother or gestational carrier, agrees to carry and give birth to a baby for another person or couple. In gestational surrogacy, the surrogate mother has no genetic connection to the baby; the embryo is created through in vitro fertilization (IVF) using the eggs and sperm of the intended parents or donors. The surrogate then carries the pregnancy to term, and after birth, the baby is handed over to the intended parents to raise.
Surrogacy provides a path to parenthood for individuals and couples who are unable to conceive or carry a pregnancy themselves. This may include people facing medical challenges, same-sex couples, or single parents. The journey of surrogacy is where the surrogate and intended parents work together to bring a new life into the world.
